Before starting her career in politics. She used to be a successful investment banker working for JP Morgan Chase in Newyork and London. When she attended her 10-year College reunion. she realized all her batch mates were successful as only bankers. 

She decided she will just not be an investment banker for her 20-year reunion. So She came back to India and joined politics.

 Mahua Moitra joined the youth wing of the Indian National Congress. She worked hard vigorously and was head of Aam Admi ka Siphai, an initiative by Rahul Gandhi in West Bengal. She was successful in implementing and becoming the famous leader and most trusted person in whole West Bengal.

When she realized that the Congress party always compromised with the left party. She left the party. As She didn’t like the left ideology. Once in an interview when she was asked about her political journey. She described how she was just getting out of the cocoon.

Mahua joined the All India Trinamool Congress in 2010. She used to speak mostly about the welfare of youth and women in her rallies. Moitra described college youths as the new generation who can understand the importance of welfare in her consistency.

She was appointed as a spokesperson and the general secretary of the TMC. The TMC chief Mamata Banerjee announced Mahua’s name as a Candidate from the Karimpur constituency in 2016. and She won the election and was elected as an MLA.

Moitra was announced as a TMC candidate for the Krishnanagar constituency of West Bengal in the 2019 General Elections.

Mahua Moitra took part in all the campaigns of the general elections. and She talked to all ages of group people and talked about their problems. She won the constituency for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Mahua won against BJP’s Kalyan Chaubey with a margin of 65,404 votes. was elected as an MP of the Parliament.

Her maiden speech became so viral all over India. Where she talked about the rising fascism in India. Many people termed the speech as a speech of the year.

Mahua Moitra Marriage

She married Lars Brorson, a Scandinavian of Danish origin, in January 2002. But later on, both of them got divorced.

Controversies

• During a live debate in January 2017. She filed a defamation case against Babul Supriyo, a Union minister. He called her Mahua drunk in Mahua which is also the name of the country alcohol in West Bengal. The news reporter however asked him to refrain from personal comments. But she filed a case against him for defaming her on the national television.
• Later the Union minister also filed a defamation case against Mahua for stating him as a wrong connection to the Rose Valley chit Scam Fund in January 2017.
• She was detained at the Assam Airport. When she slapped a Police officer on 3rd August 2018. She was detained for assaulting the officer on Duty. she was not allowed to board the flight. She was left in the morning and a case was filed against her.
